Did you say, value?

Exodus 20:12

HONOR: being true to what is right in spite of pressure on you, even if people aren't watching.

Proverbs 4:1 - We need to VALUE our parents! Seems odd right? But seriously, the Bible tells us to honor them, and value their opinion. Value their instructions. *Proverbs 1:8*

Sometimes our parents (if they're not saved) may say or advise the wrong things, things that go against God and the Bible. If they go against those standards, then we can't obey them, but we STILL have to respect them! Weird huh? But I'm being serious, it's what God wants us to do.

It's our job to respect our parents, and to obey them. Obeying them in the little things (taking out the trash, washing dishes, feeding the dog, etc.) will eventually lead to having them trust us to do what we say. They'll start trusting that we'll obey them when they say no to a party, or when they have restrictions or curfews, and that we won't disobey.

The presentation of our words and bodies means a lot. Ask yourself this: How do I talk TO, and ABOUT my parents? This hurt! I really thought about it, and realized I don't respect mine nearly enough, just because I talk about them wrong when I'm talking to my friends. Ooh boy.

One last thought - you bless your parents by obeying them, but you curse them by DISobeying them.

Ahh! Do I want to be a blessing, or a curse to my parents? No brainer - a blessing obviously! So I need to whip up into shape here, and re-read those passages of scripture. Maybe you do too? I hope this post has shown you the error by which you mistreat your parents. God gave them to us to help us grow, and to teach us. We have to take instruction from them with a patient and listening heart.

You don't know how long you have with your mom and dad. Make it count. Obey them. Respect them. Value them.

God bless, and blog soon
