The Model of Christian Speech

This Sunday was different than most. I went to a different church, just for fun, and man did I get spoken to!! God really spanked me and boy, it hurt. The pastor was teaching on the tongue and went to JAMES 3:1-10 (go read it!) all about how the tongue can be used to bless, but it can also be used to curse. We have to be careful what we're saying, and HOW we're saying it! Words can be hurtful, and cutting. Wouldn't we rather uplift someone with our words?

Here's some Helpful Hints about how to correctly model the Christian speech:

#1: Pray!!!

#2: Think before we speak: don't just say the first thing that comes to mind. *Proverbs 15:28*

#3: Don't dominate the conversation: how much time are we really talking during the conversation? Who speaks most, is at a monologue or a dialogue? *Proverbs 10:19*

#4: Speak gently from a tender heart: a loud voice level has nothing to do with how the message will be received. Speak softly, you might get through more!! *Proverbs 16:24*

#5: Be an ACTIVE listener! Pay attention when someone is talking to you, don't be distracted & thinking of every other person and every other thing you have to see/do. Really listen to what they have to say, it's important. *James 1:19*

#6: Don't interrupt others when they're speaking: it's rather annoying to get interrupted when you're in the middle of a story, right? So stop doing it to other people!! *Proverbs 18:13*

Okay, so ask yourself this question. How am I doing with this?

If the answer is "not so good", then I would pray about it, and confess to God. Then go to that person and apologize for being rude in your conversation. Remember, sticks and stones may break my bones...but words will always kill me.

Be a godly listener and a godly speaker!

God bless, and blog soon
