God Colored Lenses

Psalm 13:3 - "Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death."

This is all about our perspective! David is going through a hard time in this Psalm, and he's asking the Lord to hear him and enlighten his eyes. He wants God to give him a different perspective of the thing's he's going through.

Right now my I'm going through some things in my life, and this verse comforted and challenged me to stop looking at the troubles all around me and instead to look up at God.

Look through God Colored Lenses!

The way to do that is to ask God to give you them, you/I have to pray that God will give me a different perspective, then ALLOW Him to change it!!  Stop looking around and start looking up. God never fails us, so we need to be focusing on him.

Key point: Move Your Focus.

I need to do this, I need to pray that God will give me His colored lenses to look through, and that He will help me focus on Him versus my troubles.

Psalm 2:2

Psalm 2:2 - The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His anointed.

So I was reading this today in my daily devotional (thanks pastor Bob Coy of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale) and it also went to Psalm 2:4 (go read it!) which is talking about God "laughing".  The way this was interpreted was that God is in control, and at the end of the day man's (our) will doesn't matter! Only God's will matters.

"So it only stands to reason that if we hope to be people of substance and significance and leave a legacy that stands the test of time, then we need to get in line with what please God."

Ooh this is so true, is it not? We want to be people of substance and significance, and we want to leave an impact on the people around us right? But in order to do that we need to start aligning ourselves up next to God, and to what He wants and to what He loves.

Ask yourself this question: What does this passage reveal to me about God?

Now answer it! I did:   that God's in control even though people scheme against His will. (see the verse ^^)  His will is going to come to pass, so I better be listening to it!

How does your answer differ from mine? Do you believe God is in complete control?

A Plea for Prayer

My heart is heavy today, because I found a blog where this young, beautiful girl has made an announcement that she will commit suicide on the 18th of January. Many people are trying to get her to see that suicide isn't the way ever but she seems pretty convinced. It's so sad and I just want to ask you to pray for Marilyn, please please please!!

If you've ever considered suicide, please don't!! It's not the only way, even if people don't love you, GOD DOES! He loves you SO much, and He grieves every time someone commits suicide, because He loves them and wants the best for their life. He wants the best for YOUR life. He loves YOU. Don't succumb to the feelings, listen to what you know is right.

Please continue to lift Marilyn up to God in prayer and pleading!

Did you say, value?

Exodus 20:12

HONOR: being true to what is right in spite of pressure on you, even if people aren't watching.

Proverbs 4:1 - We need to VALUE our parents! Seems odd right? But seriously, the Bible tells us to honor them, and value their opinion. Value their instructions. *Proverbs 1:8*

Sometimes our parents (if they're not saved) may say or advise the wrong things, things that go against God and the Bible. If they go against those standards, then we can't obey them, but we STILL have to respect them! Weird huh? But I'm being serious, it's what God wants us to do.

It's our job to respect our parents, and to obey them. Obeying them in the little things (taking out the trash, washing dishes, feeding the dog, etc.) will eventually lead to having them trust us to do what we say. They'll start trusting that we'll obey them when they say no to a party, or when they have restrictions or curfews, and that we won't disobey.

The presentation of our words and bodies means a lot. Ask yourself this: How do I talk TO, and ABOUT my parents? This hurt! I really thought about it, and realized I don't respect mine nearly enough, just because I talk about them wrong when I'm talking to my friends. Ooh boy.

One last thought - you bless your parents by obeying them, but you curse them by DISobeying them.

Ahh! Do I want to be a blessing, or a curse to my parents? No brainer - a blessing obviously! So I need to whip up into shape here, and re-read those passages of scripture. Maybe you do too? I hope this post has shown you the error by which you mistreat your parents. God gave them to us to help us grow, and to teach us. We have to take instruction from them with a patient and listening heart.

You don't know how long you have with your mom and dad. Make it count. Obey them. Respect them. Value them.
